UMNO: Learning from the Past to Build a Stronger Future

In the intricate world of politics, the adage “once bitten, twice shy” holds profound significance, especially for UMNO. As we contemplate giving a second chance to individuals, it’s crucial to reflect on the past transgressions they have committed against UMNO. Evaluating their previous actions is essential in determining whether they deserve another opportunity.

For instance, evaluating former UMNO members showcased on platforms like TikTok can be revealing. It’s up to us to interpret their behavior and decide if they are worthy of acceptance back into the fold. There are exceptions, such as Dato’ Seri Tajudin Rahman, whose significant contributions and active family involvement in UMNO merit consideration.

I support Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s assertion that UMNO is the largest Malay party and should continue to be the cornerstone for Malays. The strength of UMNO is synonymous with the strength of our nation. In my view, if UMNO regains its strength in tandem with the MADANI government’s political leadership under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, it will signify the dawn of a Malay renaissance, potentially leading to a Unity Government as envisioned in the Malaysian Renaissance dream.

UMNO President Zahid Hamidi has noted that membership is consistently growing, with none of the 22,000 branches across the country disbanding. Regarding Ku Li’s (Tengku Razaleigh) comment on rejuvenating UMNO’s leadership, I agree with caution. History has shown that hastily inducting individuals can lead to issues with political maturity, ethics, and resilience, often resulting in senior leaders being viewed as liabilities.

For example, figures like Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) and Isham Jalil seem to have forgotten that senior political leaders have endured significant struggles to attain their positions. Leaders like Dato’ Seri Najib Razak and Dato’ Zahid Hamidi rose through the ranks without undermining their peers. Zahid’s political journey, likened to the national literary novel Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan, reflects this perseverance.

We can also look at PMX Anwar Ibrahim’s tumultuous political journey, filled with suffering and setbacks, which no one expected him to survive. Yet, by divine will, he now serves as our Prime Minister. This underscores the importance of resilience and steadfastness in political leadership.

UMNO must thus seek the best formula to safeguard this esteemed Malay party. Ku Li serves as an exemplary leader, having turned down the Prime Minister’s position to focus on his responsibilities. His dedication is evident in his contribution to the World Trade Centre (WTC) building, which he monitored closely to ensure its swift and beautiful completion. Ku Li’s selfless act of donating the land and overseeing the construction of WTC reflects his commitment to the Malay people and Malaysia.

In light of his contributions, I, along with my friend Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Rahman, President of MUBARAK, propose that UMNO dedicate a section of this grand building in Ku Li’s honor. Furthermore, I suggest that UMNO recommend the government to bestow upon Ku Li the nation’s highest honor, the title of TUN.
