New Norm New Thinking

UMNO Can Unite the Malays Through TVET

On my journey from Jalan Duta Bus Station to Kangar, Perlis, I reflected on my life and my role in politics. At 71 years old and having recently re-engaged with my local UMNO branch in my hometown, I pondered how UMNO can contribute to the development of the Malay community.

One significant way, I believe, is through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). UMNO has an essential role in uniting the Malays, and TVET provides an appropriate platform to achieve this goal.

TVET offers practical education that is relevant to current industry needs. By focusing on TVET, UMNO can create opportunities for young Malays to gain the necessary skills for various employment sectors. This not only helps reduce unemployment rates but also enhances the standard of living for the Malay community.

Why TVET?

  1. Career Opportunities: TVET provides direct training for jobs. With the skills acquired, TVET graduates find it easier to secure employment in technical and vocational fields such as engineering, information technology, and healthcare services.
  2. Economic Development: TVET graduates can significantly contribute to the national economy through higher productivity. They not only become competitive workers but also entrepreneurs who can create new jobs.
  3. Skill Enhancement: In an increasingly complex world, the need for specialized skills is rising. TVET offers relevant and up-to-date training aligned with technological and industrial developments.

UMNO’s Role in Empowering TVET

UMNO must take a proactive role in promoting and strengthening TVET among the Malays. Several steps that can be taken include:

  1. Collaboration with Industries: UMNO can establish partnerships with industries to ensure that TVET programs meet labor market demands. This includes industrial training, internships, and job opportunities for TVET graduates.
  2. Awareness Campaigns: Through informative programs and awareness campaigns, UMNO can help change public perception of TVET. TVET should be viewed as a career path equal to academic education.
  3. Financial Support: UMNO can assist in securing funds and scholarships for Malay students interested in TVET programs. Financial support is crucial to ensure that all groups can access this education.
  4. Infrastructure Development: UMNO can work with the government and private sectors to develop modern TVET institutes equipped with the latest facilities.

Conclusion

Through TVET, UMNO has the opportunity to unite the Malays and prepare them for future challenges. Vocational and technical education not only opens doors to career opportunities but also plays a vital role in the economic and social development of the community.

With strong commitment and effective strategies, UMNO can lead this effort and ensure that the Malays are not left behind in the nation’s development. TVET is the key to the rise and unity of the Malay community in Malaysia.
