A note from PMX
Last night, amidst the serene ambiance of Balai Budaya Tun Syed Nasir, an event of profound cultural significance unfolded, the Malam Langkahan Wira. Hosted by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), this event was a vibrant celebration of poetry, art, and national identity, graced by esteemed guests including the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek, and the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, Dr. Zulkifli Hasan.

The evening commenced with a mesmerising performance by the Kuala Lumpur School of Arts, who eloquently recited the revered poem “Keranda 152” by the National Laureate, Usman Awang. This poignant piece of literature has long been an anthem of our struggle to elevate and preserve the Malay language, echoing the resilience of a people determined not to let their language be silenced by the dictates of the past.
Throughout the night, attendees were treated to stirring recitations of poetry, each piece resonating with themes of nationalism and patriotism. Notably, the Minister of Education and the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs graced the stage with their own poetic renditions, underscoring the importance of cultural heritage in shaping our national consciousness.

Amidst the artistic fervor, I had the privilege of engaging in conversation with National Laureate A. Samad Said. Reflecting on his timeless work, “Di Atas Padang Sejarah,” which served as a rallying cry during moments of national upheaval, we were reminded of the power of poetry as a weapon against tyranny and oppression.
Events like Malam Langkahan Wira serve as vital platforms for nurturing and promoting our cultural heritage, especially among the younger generation. As we strive to uphold and dignify the Malay language, it is imperative that such gatherings be expanded and amplified, ensuring that our rich literary tradition continues to inspire and unite us as a nation.
In conclusion, Malam Langkahan Wira stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of our cultural identity, a night of poetry, art, and camaraderie that reaffirms our commitment to preserving the essence of who we are as a people.
